Jermaine Jenas has opined that Tottenham Hotspurs could struggle to get a top four finish with current happenings at the club.
The former player feels the move to Wembley Stadium could have major impact on the team. He is concerned about their lack of transfer activity, unlike their other rivals in the top echelon of the Premier League. In addition, Jenas is concerned that the strengthening of rivals bids poorly for Spurs.
Jermaine Jenas decried the loss of Kyle Walker especially to a major rival side Manchester City.
“The other side to that is that Spurs were always going to sell to the highest bidder, and the clubs in the Premier League have the most money.”
The former Spurs man after acknowledging the situation at the club added that fans continue to trust the manager Mauricio Pochettino. He says the tactician should have a plan in place for him to have allowed one of the bests leave the team.
“He has nurtured Kieran Trippier into a position where he will play a number of games this year, and I’d be surprised if he didn’t bring in someone with more experience to help out,” he said.
Jenas also commented on the wage structure at the club which could force the best players to exit the club at some point. He gives the England national team as an instance where the Spurs’ players would meet players that earn way more compared to them despite their returns.
“Some players reach a certain stage in their careers where they feel they need to earn more money,” he argued.
He said for now most of the players in the team are content as they are keen on lifting titles for now. He says the team could hit some brick wall when they regularly make the top four and win trophies. For now he believes star player Harry Kane is going nowhere due to his status in the team, the club’s ambitions and his captaincy in the national team.
