JERMAINE JENAS: WANYAMA BETTER THAN XHAKA

Retired Spurs player Jermaine Jenas had revealed he is impressed with the performance of summer addition Victor Wanyama.

The Kenya international was impressive when Spurs played the Gunners in the Premier League. His display forced Jenas to opine that Wanyama was a better buy than Swiss international Granit Xhaka.

Jenas, a Match of the Day pundit, wrote on his column in Yahoo! that:

“Arsenal may have been in better form of late but we learned on Sunday that their central midfield is nowhere near as good as Tottenham’s. Francis Coquelin had a decent game, but Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele and Christian Eriksen, playing in a slightly deeper role, were dominant.

“When you look at the two major midfield signings the sides made in the summer, Wanyama looks afar better purchase than Granit Xhaka.”

The 33-year old disclosed that Arsenal had holes in the middle, and that the signings are of superior quality compared to that of Spurs. In the five Premier League games played between Arsenal and Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino has not lost to Arsene Wenger.

Jenas himself used to play in the North London derbies, particularly during his eight-year stay at White Hart Lane. He started his career at Nottingham Forest before joining Newcastle in 2001. Jenas moved to White Hart Lane in 2005/06 for 12.75 million Pounds. Whilst with Spurs, he spent time on loan at Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest before eventually moving to Queen Park Rangers on a free transfer deal.

Arsenal have had a decent start to the new season even as they have suffered the regular ‘November curse,’ dropping points that has seen them drop to fourth place from being joint log leaders. Spurs follow closely in fifth place and a point behind.
