FULHAM WANT JENAS

Fulham are looking at the possibility of signing Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas in the summer transfer window, according to the Tottenham news website. The former Newcastle United midfielder has not had a lot of first-team opportunities with the London club after the arrival of Harry Redknapp.

He has spent a few seasons on loan at various clubs over the past few seasons. Even though Tottenham recently parted company with manager Harry Redknapp, it is still thought that Jermaine Jenas will be looking to secure a move away from Tottenham in order to get regular first-team football. Fulham have emerged as a real contender for his signature, as they look to replace Danny Murphy.

The 35-year-old former Liverpool midfielder recently moved to Championship club Blackburn Rovers on a two year deal. This would leave a major void in the first team of Fulham due to the fact that Danny Murphy was an ever present in the starting line-up under manager Martin Jol.

Signing Jermaine Jenas would be a major coup for Fulham given that he was one of the outstanding players for Martin Jol when he was managing Tottenham a few seasons back. The 29-year-old is expected to be the replacement for Danny Murphy, but there is a chance that he could still get opportunities at Tottenham to the expected departure of Luka Modric.

The Croatian midfielder has been linked with a £ 35 million move to Spanish club Real Madrid in the summer. This coupled with the injury problems suffered by midfielder Scott Parker at the Euro 2012 is likely to rule him out for the first few weeks of the campaign, and the possibility that Gareth Bale will move on too.

This should ensure that Jermaine Jenas gets a real opportunity to impress the new manager, who is expected to be unveiled in the next week. Andre Villas-Boas is currently leading the race to secure the Tottenham job.
